On 6th June 2025 a significant stride was made in our ongoing fight for dignity and safety in the workplace. Selfless Compassion Initiative, in a powerful collaboration with the SIHA Network (Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa), successfully hosted a groundbreaking campaign event, "Break the Silence."
The event was not just a gathering; it was a resonant call to action, a safe space for sharing, and a vital educational forum dedicated to eradicating sexual harassment from our professional environments.
Event Highlights:
A Day of Courage and Commitment. The atmosphere was charged with empathy and determination. Here’s what unfolded:
- Powerful Personal Testimonies: In a session that moved many to tears, brave individuals shared their personal experiences with workplace harassment. Their courage in speaking out underscored the devastating impact of silence and the liberating power of sharing one's truth.·
-Pre event of football match at Tuambe : SIHA Network organized a powerful football match between women (market vendors, Women Rights Organization representatives) and men allies which was very exciting and women took the lead. SCI Josephine was the goal keeper of the day hence defending the women team paka last.
The Pledge Wall: Attendees, from different to CSOs, made a public commitment by signing our "#BreakTheSilence" pledge wall, vowing to be active participants in creating a culture of respect and zero tolerance for harassment.
Why Breaking the Silence Matters
Sexual harassment thrives in silence. It creates an environment of fear, undermines productivity, and damages lives. This campaign reinforced three core messages:
1. It Is Never Your Fault: Harassment is about the abuse of power, not clothing, behavior, or profession.
2. You Are Not Alone: A community of support exists, and resources are available to help you.
3. Speaking Up is a Strength: By reporting harassment, you protect yourself and prevent it from happening to others.
Resources & Next Steps: The Journey Continues though
the event may be over, but our mission is not.
A profound thank you to every survivor who shared their story, to every attendee who listened with an open heart, and to the incredible team at the SIHA Network for their expertise and unwavering commitment. Your presence amplified our message: We See You. We Believe You. We Stand With You.
This is just the beginning. Together, we can break the culture of silence and build workplaces where everyone feels safe, respected, and empowered to thrive.
